Consumer Alert: Sleepers Get Moldy

by KREX News Room

ROCKVILLE, M.D. - The government is warning consumers to inspect Fisher-Price "Newborn Rock N' Play Sleepers" due to risk of exposure to mold for infants who use them.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the warning applies to 800,000 infant recliner seats that were sold nationwide since September 2009.

Officials say mold can develop between the removable seat cushion and the hard plastic frame if the sleeper remains wet or is infrequently cleaned.

More than 600 cases of mold have been reported, resulting in 16 infants suffering from respiratory issues.

If you own one of the sleepers and find mold under the cushion, the agency says to stop using the seat and to call Fisher-Price for further assistance.

They can be reached at (800) 432-5437 or online at service.mattel.com.

Or the parents could actually do their job right and keep the thing clean and dry.
