Consumer Alert: Magazine Sales Scam Affecting Students

by KREX News Room
by Kristina Kuestner

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Grand Junction Police Department has recently received several reports from Colorado Mesa University students who were targeted by people claiming to be selling magazines subscriptions as fundraisers for various groups.

The students were told to pay for the subscription up front, then take the receipt to Colorado Mesa University to have the money reimbursed.

Officials say this is not true, and so far, several people have lost hundreds of dollars.

Officials remind everyone to research the group that is doing the fundraising before giving them any money.

If you have information about this scam, you are asked to call the Grand Junction Police Department at 970-242-6707 or Crime Stoppers at 241-STOP.
