GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- On Sunday, members of the community joined together for the first Vitality Walk, raising awareness and money for Parkinson's disease.

The event was held at Long Family Memorial Park and was sponsored by the Parkinson Association of the Rockies.

Money raised will go toward Grand Junction-based Parkinson's disease programs.

Locals are also trying to spread the word about a support group in Grand Junction.

Nancy Booz, co-chair of the support group, said, "Anybody's welcome. We have different speakers every month, and it's for the caregivers also. I'm a caregiver. My mother is in her 16th year with Parkinson's, so it's just really support, and we find out a lot about different programs that are out there."

The support group meets the first Wednesday of every month at the First Christian Church near Sherwood Park.

The meeting is held from 3:30 p.m to 5 p.m.

Officials say anyone is welcome.
