Commissioners Approve Resolution Defending 2nd Amendment

MESA COUNTY, Colo. On Monday morning, Mesa County Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution aimed at protecting and defending the Second Amendment. Newly elected commissioner Rose Pugliese drafted the resolution.

Dozens of residents packed a Mesa County courtroom, passionately speaking in favor and against it.

Gene Dreher spoke in favor of the resolution. He encourages people to get involved, "This is not a spectator sport, this is not like watching the Broncos. This one, you can play in."

A gun owner herself, Rose Pugliese put forth the resolution to defend the Second Amendment.

"On the state and the federal level there's a lot of legislation that's coming out, and we already have a lot of gun control regulation on the books," said Pugliese.

NRA training counselor Guy Masterson, said, "I think she's right on track. If we look at the United States, it's government for the people by the people."

Commissioners hope to inspire other counties to act as well.

"Really hoping it's going to take off like a wildfire. We are going to be sending copies of the resolution to the governor, to the assembly here in Colorado and also on the federal level," Pugliese said.

However, not everyone present was there to support the commissioner's efforts.

Claudette Konola said, "I understand when you get afraid you sometimes act emotionally instead of logically, but there is nothing logical about thinking it's okay to walk around the county carrying a gun just because you can."

Harry Andrews, who is a veteran and who was also in law enforcement for several years, spoke out against the resolution. "Kind of rallying the base type thing here and I just kind of find that ill-advised, disingenuous and frankly kind of silly," he said.

Those opposed say the resolution won't accomplish much, if anything at all. They say federal law will supersede the action.

"This was an exercise in making everyone feel good, but has very little substance," said Konola.

Mesa County is following suit of others with this resolution, including Montrose, El Paso and Weld counties.

And Federal Law supercedes local when we keep allowing it to. We're forgetting the Ninth and Tenth Amendmendments.

It will be enforce because the county needs all that federal money." Maybe just maybe the county has become to dependent on the Federal government. All the feds do is give us a small portion of "OUR MONEY" back to us. and if the people of mesa county do not do what the feds want they withhold was is ours to begin with. Maybe we should turn the tables and withhold money from the federal govt if they do not do what we the people tell them to do.

All this grandstanding by Ms. Pugliese would be funny if not for all the people thinking that the government is going to come to your house and take your guns away. Not true, but all the Fed. So let me get this right. One only needs to have an R next to their name,a pulse, and they can be the "next big thing" here in the valley. Too funny if it weren't true. It takes a major failure to make the last 2 commissioners even remotely look respectable. Congrats on this lowly Accomplishment well done. smh

No one is talking about taking away our 2nd Amendment. The commissioners are grandstanding. Rose Pugliese is just trying to get attention. Why can't they address some real issues? Get to work.

As a resolution , it was simply a proactive way to show that the majority if this county, including the commissioners support 2nd amendment rights. The neighborhood gossip and her cohorts can call it silly all they wish, it was a brilliant move by the commissioners. I'll bet 1st amendment rights were trampled on by Aquafresco. My assumption is that Phillips wanted to grandstand and wasn't going to be held back by the constaints of her allotted speaking time.

Maybe one of the reasons that Kanola is a failure is that she doesn't appreciate the views of the people. But she does have a certificate in something issued by people like her.

This is the culture war. Self-Reliance vs Dependnce. The people who want power or want to be dependent say things like: "it doesn't matter", "you can't do anything", "you'll only hurt yourself" and that only people with the proper certificates and union membership are capable of doing anything. That's all a lie, but they are either power freaks trying to control everyone else or they are so terrified of life that they have to be protected by someone in authority.

Does it matter? This resolution carries the same legal weight as declaring it county-wide chocolate-chip cookie day. Its nothing but playing to the masses. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Since I was denied my 1st Amendment rights I am wondering why the rude behavior of Aquafresca was so acceptable. The crowd was there supporting the 2nd Amendment, by invitation of Rose Pugliese on Facebook, and they thought it was OK as did Aquafresca to deny my 1st amendment rights. Funny thing is, I support the 2nd amendment. But I support it with responsible behavior and background checks. I am a proficient gun owner and concealed weapons license carrier. My focus was how much time and money was spent on this so called resolution of no constitutional significance. Just financially fiscal irresponsibility.
