Colorado Exports Set Record High in 2012

DENVER (AP) - Colorado officials say state exports set a record high last year, led by strong gains in computers, electronics, food, machinery and chemicals.

The Colorado Office of Economic Development and Trade says shipments from the state increased 11.3 percent in 2012, growing from $7.3 billion to $8.1 billion. That topped the 4.4 percent national growth rate.

The Denver Post reports industrial machinery, including computers, was up 38 percent; oil- and gas-related products, up 32 percent; iron and steel products, up 23 percent; and meat _ including beef, pork and internal organs _ up 11 percent.

The export numbers aren't adjusted for inflation, so Colorado remains behind where it was in 2006, when exports were $7.9 billion.

Canada was Colorado's top export market, followed by Mexico and mainland China.
