Colorado Nurses Can Administer Anesthesia

by KREX News Room
by Associated Press

DENVER- Based on a ruling by the Colorado Court of Appeals, advanced practice nurses can now administer anesthesia without a doctor's supervision.

Despite concerns by doctors stating that patients could suffer serious medical complications, hospitals say the move was necessary because there aren't enough doctors.

Hospitals also expressed support on the decision when looking ahead, when the country adapts new health care laws.

The spokesman of the Colorado Society of Anesthesiologists supports the ruling, because it will cut costs by turning over more responsibility to nurses.
