GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Mike Kalush has traveled from the Kansas border to Utah, making his way through Colorado. He underwent the journey on a unicycle, symbolically bringing awareness to single parenthood. NewsChannel 5 caught up with him as he made his way through Grand Junction.

The effort is called '1 Across Colorado'. Kalush said it is his personal experience that made him choose this unique way of raising awareness about single parents and everything they do for their families.

Although not a single parent himself, Kalush said, "I grew up with seven sisters and six were single parents. I saw their struggle and go through that whole thing, and it's hard. I wanted to do something to pay tribute to single parents and this is what I'm doing, riding across Colorado on one wheel. It's very symbolic," Kalush said.

Kalush's father traveled behind in a motor home, but in all, Kalush traveled 500 miles himself. As he made a pit stop in Grand Junction, he was greeted by his sisters as a surprise.
