Colorado Democrats Unveil Gun Control Plan

by KREX News Room
by Jordan Sherman

DENVER- Democratic lawmakers have debuted their plan to prevent gun violence on the state level.

The plan does not include a controversial assault weapons ban, however, it does include the banning of high capacity magazines and universal background checks for gun buyers.

Democrats also want to see new regulations passed, allowing mental health workers to inform authorities of when patients shouldn't have access to guns.

Republicans are expected to oppose the ideas.

Several GOP measures have been rejected including a bill that would allow school employees to carry firearms.

"When a robbery victim does not defend himself, the robber succeeds 88 percent of the time, and the victim is injured 25 percent of the time. When a victim resists with a gun, the robbery success rate falls to 30 percent, and the victim injury rate falls to 17 percent. No other response to a robbery – from drawing a knife to shouting for help to fleeing – produces such low rates of victim injury and robbery success." Universal background checks are a path to registration. Legal, law abiding citizens should not have to endure either one. No to any form of gun control!

Democrats in this state have lost their minds. Holding companies and manufacters liable is like hold a bicycle company liable if someone wrecks on it. High capacity magazines bans comes from ignorance about guns. I would just need to carry more magazines. What has happened to individual responsibility? Please someone in the Democratic party stand up for common sense!

Restricting law abiding citizens has never been successful as a crime reducing idea, it simply allows more crime. Only criminals make laws favorable to the criminal element.
