Colorado Attorney General Warns of Wildfire Donation Scams

by KREX News Room
by Meaghan Wallace

DENVER- Colorado Attorney General John Suthers is warning Colorado residents to be aware of scammers who are taking advantage of the wildfire tragedies.

According to officials, scam artists are targeting neighborhoods and going door to door posing as representatives from notable nonprofit organizations.

Officials say the scammers are claiming to collect funds for victims of the recent Colorado wildfires. Officials say these scams are also happening in the form of robocalls.

Organizations like the American Red Cross do not solicit donations in either of these forms. If you want to make a valid contribution, officials ask that you go directly through their nonprofit centers or websites.

If you think you're being targeted in one of these frauds, make sure to report it by calling the attorney general's consumer complaint line
at 800-222-4444.
