Colo. Lawmakers to Consider Repealing Death Penalty

DENVER (AP) - Democrats who control the Colorado Legislature are considering repealing the death penalty with a bill that would launch one of the most emotional debates of this year's session.

Democrats have been counting votes behind the scenes and say they have enough votes to pass the measure when it's introduced soon. But an emotional voice of opposition comes from their own party -- Aurora Rep. Rhonda Fields. Two of the three men on death row are there because they were convicted of killing Fields' son and his fiancee in 2005.

Fields also represents a district where emotions over the debate are running high in the aftermath of the movie theater shooting rampage.

Death-penalty opponents say it's handed down unfairly and doesn't deter crime. Supporters say some crimes merit the harshest punishment.

Isn't it funny how democrats have no problem with capital punishment when it comes to the unborn, yet decry how unfair it is with criminals? Ah, the hypocrisy speaks volumes about who they are and what they really support..........

There is an old proverb that states; "Mercy toward evil, is cruelty toward the innocent". Doing away with the death penalty is doing away with justice. The reason innocent people are put on death row and even put to death is; the prosecuters are more concerned about making a reputation for themselves, than they are about gaining the truth. Being merciful to evil only encourages more evil, but that is politically correct. Common sense is no longer wanted in this nation by the intellectual crowd, because it makes too much sense. We are coming closer to a time when inflicting evil on "rightys", will be allowed as fair play. Remember the history of Europe in the late 30s and early 40s of the last century? When liberals are running the show, they prove they never learn from history.

Well I see the supporters of State sanctioned murder are out in force. And how many innocent folks who were on death row were released last year after DNA proved they were innocent?

You are right: Liberals will kill the innocent with impunity but allow the guilty to rest on Death Row "forever", and then crow about how the death penalty has little deterrent effect. There are some democrats who have there head screwed on correctly and are not against the death penalty.
