Colo. House Democrats Advance Gun-Control Bills

by KREX News Room
by Jacklyn Thrapp

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Democrats gave initial approval to expanding background checks on firearm purchases and setting ammunition limits as the battle over stricter gun laws got under away at the state Capitol.

A House committee voted Tuesday to require background checks on private gun sales and online firearm purchases, and also a limit on high-capacity magazines. Republicans opposed the measures.

The votes came after more than eight hours of testimony from those who say the measures are needed to curb gun violence, and people concerned that their right to bear arms is being restricted.

It's the beginning of a long fight on a package of Democratic bills that are responses to the mass shootings at an Aurora movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school.

Several more votes are needed before the bills become law.

What part of "disarming the law-abiding citizens will not stop the violence", do the democrats, NOT, understand? The law-abiding citizens ARE NOT the ones doing the violence, the criminal element are getting the biggest laugh of a lifetime watching the politicians go after the law-abiding citizens for something, they, are doing. Does that not speak utter stupidity on the part of the politicians? Of the 340 million people in this country, nearly half of them own guns legally. Is that number represented in the number of crimes committed where guns are used? Political correctness is totally void of common sense, and is totally represented by those politicians working to bring fear of an inanimate object that can't work without a person using it. The problem is not the law-abiding citizen, it is the politicians and their criminal friends.
