GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP)- Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials had their hands full this past year in eastern Garfield, Eagle and Pitkin Counties.

According to KCNC in Denver, through November of 2012 there were 100 bears killed. That's up from just 32 in 2011.

officials say the late killing frost combined with 2012's historic drought is the primary reason for the spike in bear activity.

Data suggests that the problem is sharply reduced in historically wet years.
