MESA COUNTY, Colo.- A Clifton man accused of threatening to blow up an old refinery in Mesa County will face a federal judge next month.

Authorities say in August, 36-year-old Michael Schonlau allegedly told the FBI that he was suicidal, armed with explosives, connected to a large propane tank and was planning on blowing up the refinery in Fruita.

When law enforcement took Schonlau into custody, they did not find any explosives.

According to a spokesman with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Schonlau is now being charged with using a telephone to threaten injury or destruction by explosives and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He is set to appear at a detention hearing on Dec. 13.
