Civil Unions Bill Gains Momentum

by KREX News Room
by Kristina Kuestner

DENVER (AP)- A civil unions bill for same-sex couples gains momentum.

Senate Democrats gave initial approval to the bill Friday, with one Republican joining them. One more vote will send the bill to the House, possibly as soon as next week.

Republicans defeated the measure in the House during the last two years. But Democrats now control both chambers and are aiming for a speedy approval, seven years after voters banned gay marriage.

Democrats say civil unions are about equal rights. Republicans argue the bill infringes on religious beliefs.

Oh isn't this magical lol

Floyd said on Saturday, Feb 9 at 5:47 PM

The dems are always crying about equal rights, at the same time they are trampeling on rights of those people they don't like. Who do they not like? anyone who doesn't agree with their agenda.

Scott said on Saturday, Feb 9 at 7:14 PM

Generally, the "rights" you claim are being trampled were never rights to begin with.

Floyd said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 6:23 AM

And what rights are those, Scott?

Not Floyd said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 9:40 AM

How in the world is the gay community trampling on any of your "rights" Floyd? What do the heterosexuals not get to participate in now Floyd that they could before the gay community ruined everything for the straight crowd? You still get to be a bigot You still get to get divorced You still get to attend sporting events You still get to enjoy a family meal at any table you please, in your favorite eating establishment You can still visit any store you please in the mall or elsewhere Now what exactly did the gay community do to trample on any of your rights again Floyd? Oh, you want the "right" to tell the gay community that what they do is wrong and disgusting and they need to stop. Well that isn't for you to decide, because if it was that easy I surely think there are plenty of people that would like to decide things for you as well.

Scott said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 10:33 AM

Floyd, how about you actually specify what rights are being trampled? You like to make that assertion, but you've never backed it up that I've seen. You give some specifics and then we'll see if they are actually rights.

N.F, which sporting events had up the "No gays" signs? Which restaurants? Which stores in the mall? I have never seen one of those signs in my lifetime. Isn't there already laws on the books that prohibit that type of discrimination? Why, oh why is the solution always more regulations, more government, more oppression of freedoms?

Scott said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 2:58 PM

Except this law removes some of that discrimination and oppression.

Disgusted said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 4:35 PM

Scott, you have missed the point so I will ask the questions again.....Which sporting events had up the "No gays" signs? Which restaurants? Which stores in the mall? I have never seen one of those signs in my lifetime. Isn't there already laws on the books that prohibit that type of discrimination? Why, oh why is the solution always more regulations, more government, more oppression of freedoms? Why are the existing laws inadequate to address this situation?

Scott said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 5:14 PM

Because the existing laws still discriminate when it comes to civil unions. Gays cannot enter into them and receive the same benefits as hetero couples. No one said there were "no gays" signs in stores or sporting events. What does that have to do with the issue?

Upset said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 5:19 PM

Scott is here to represent the militant gay agenda. When people disagree with the agenda they start claiming oppression, discrimination etc. Scott and people like Scott, really dont have anything to complain about. It's all about a agenda to destroy others and traditional thinking, and it begins in the schools with children. Schools really don't teach useful skills, children are taught things like "little johnny has two dads, and little Susie has two moms." And when kids get older, we have the LGBT clubs.

Scott said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 7:50 PM

And when those who are endorsing the discrimination but don't want to admit it can't come up with any actual reasons for their position, they resort to attacking the person who made them look in the mirror and see something they didn't like. Did you have an actual point there, Upset? I'd be upset if I made arguments that bad, too.

Scott said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 8:30 PM

Upset, I apologize. I came off far more belligerently in that last post than I should have. I try not to attack the person, and I failed this time. My apologies.

First amendment rights for one, they want to control what we say about them, they don't want any negative talk about them but don't stop them from saying what they want about straits. They don't want the churches to say anything about their lifestyle, because it might be intolerant. I used to live in an apartment house where there were gays on one side of me and lessies on the other side. The walls were not insulated very well and their conversations were anything but nice when they talked about straits. Violent, they have to have the most violent lifestyle I have ever seen anyone have. I grew up in an alcoholic home but I never saw any violence like that. They trample the rights of the children they have living with them all the time. The nieghbor accross the court told us they saw things that were terrible, they too wondered why they were allowed to have kids living with them. Civil unions will have a lot of bad consequences, count on it.

Scott said on Sunday, Feb 10 at 10:08 PM

Floyd, I can understand why you have such a negative opinion. But don't paint everyone with the same brush. It isn't hard to find examples from any demographic that don't do the rest any credit. There are straight couples who act the same way. Just as devil's advocate, perhaps the way the laws discriminate fueled the way your former neighbors apparently felt about straights. Changing those laws might go a long way towards changing their attitude.

Disgusted said on Monday, Feb 11 at 12:29 AM

Changing laws cannot change history. Not 2000 years of it. Romans 1:26-32 is written proof of that. There are already existing laws that cover discrimination as far as housing, employment, education. Until I am provided with iron clad proof that some sort of discrimination exists, I see no reason to support this or any other civil union bill.

Floyd said on Monday, Feb 11 at 6:43 PM

Scott, I have seen too many lives ruined by the homoesxual lifestyle to ever think that anything good could ever come from it. Civil libertys framed around that lifestyle is already a bust. There are fines in Canada for as much as $250,000 for saying something they don't want to hear. In Oregon they have fines for the same reason, 1st amendment rights minumized. Civil libertys should benefit all the people, but that will not be the case with the gay crowd. It is just one more step in their agenda, civil rights can be used to defeat those who do not agree with the agenda, and thats where the gay crowd is headed with all the new civil rights they want. Legislated equality is not, equality. Never has been, never will be.
