City of Grand Junction Approves Restoration Increase

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The city of Grand Junction will return wages to previous levels for its employees.

The decision was made during Wednesday night's city council meeting.

Officials say there will be a 1.5 percent restoration increase to bring employee wages back to 2009 levels, starting this week.

According to city officials, all city employees voluntarily decided to take the 3 percent pay cut a few years ago, but the local economy is getting better and so is the money.

"Rather to take furlough days, which impacts the service we provide to the community, the city employees banned together and decided that the pay cut was the way to go instead," said Sam Rainguet, Grand Junction Communications Coordinator. "We are definitely seeing our sales
tax revenue strengthening and that trend has been continuing through the year," she said.

In January, city employees received 1.5 percent back; now, they're looking to receive the other 1.5 percent, totaling the 3 percent that was originally cut.

City officials say there are about 630 city employees.

Driving from the city market in orchard mesa I counted 7 recently failed businesses. North ave. is very similar. We are not doing better. If you counter with all the new growth in the west of the valley, just remember that is not yet paid for. It is a 10% theft/albatross on all future earnings of valley workers. All this 'growth' is false and actually harms more than helps. Until we tighten the belt, face the music and deal with the spending problems, it is simply blowing a bigger bubble to pop. But as is always the case, I'm sure there will be someone to swoop in and pick up the carnage at rock bottom prices.

Quick, spend it now before the voters wake up and the next Obamaquake hits. (In 6 months the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the city employees will drown out all of the other sounds in the valley. Maybe then, we can get rid of the current wannabe important people who sit on the city council and replace them with adults who will manage the city.)
