GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Colorado Lottery is awarding Grand Junction Parks and Recreation a prestigious award for their use of grant money in Lincoln Park.
The lottery has awarded thousands of dollars in grants to various cities across the state, but now they've determined Grand Junction has made the best use of the $250,000 grant they were given.
The award is called the Starburst Community Award, and Parks and Recreation are saying the thanks should go to the community.
“We attribute a lot of this award to the community, because the community is actually the one who came up with a lot of the ideas that came to fruition in the park now that you see today,” said Recreation Superintendent Traci Wieland.
Some of the big renovations over the last year are the creation of the arboretum trail, adding a universally accessible playground and putting in educational signs for the public.
Officials say they will continue applying for more grants, and the next one they’re waiting approval for is for Las Colonias Park.
