Grand Junction City Officials Review TABOR Feedback

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - After months of gathering feedback about potential TABOR funds, city officials met Monday night to discuss the latest results through more than 1,200 surveys.

83 percent of those surveyed were in favor of using TABOR funds for capital improvements.

73 percent of those who cam to an additional TABOR open house also said they'd approve.

In light of those numbers, City Council discussed putting a potential question on April's ballot, focusing around a transportation capital improvement project, which is the winning choice so far through the input received.

"Reading through the comments, I think it's something that the community sees as being beneficial to everybody, that everyone, for the most part, uses roads and has to travel to work, or shopping or wherever they may be going and so it's a community wide benefit," said Sam Rainguet with the city of Grand Junction.

Mail-In Survey Results:
57% support transportation projects.
13% support park related projects.
20% support fire station projects.
10% support other projects.

TABOR Open House Results:
Est. 150 people attended
32% support transportation projects.
23% support park related projects.
27% support fire station projects.
13% support other projects.

The City Attorney will start to draft a transportation themed TABOR ballot question, but the city is still looking for feedback until December 21 and will make any changes necessary to reflect the public's input, before a final ballot question is written on January 16.

Looks like the same old sell job - Page 3A, Daily Sentinel, 12/18, "TABOR override would free up $2.4 million for city projects". Note the word "free". Yeah, free to the city but where would this "free" money come from? We taxpayers, that's where!

Hmmm...who to believe? The city or my lying eyes? On one hand the city claims the citizens generously want Them to spend the money on 'make-work' projects, on the other hand I see record food stamp use, long lines at the homeless shelter, families having to shack 3 generations to a house, etc.....

Mail in Surveys? I never got one. Please don't tell me that they chose who they wanted responses from, because that is what i already think. They don't plan on letting TABOR expire. Yet every time we vote down "Special Funding" for some project, the Money always seems to be found in the Budget anyway. Just give us our Money, you don't know how to properly spend it.

Why was nobody in favor of refunding the money to its rightful owners, the taxpayers. Was the survey rigged?
