LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The owner of a home where an officer was shot and killed by a fellow officer has been charged with several crimes.

The Denver Post reports Saturday that 37-year-old Joe Anthony Ruiz has been charged with being a previous offender in possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence, disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and other offenses. Ruiz is free on $25,000 bail.

Officers were investigating reports of a prowler in the neighborhood when they heard the gunfire. Police then set up a perimeter around Ruiz's house as they prepared to search the place.

Officer Devaney Braley, who was in Ruiz's backyard, shot over a 6-foot privacy fence and killed fellow officer James Davies.

Davies' death remains under investigation.
