Chamber Officials See Growth in Area Businesses

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Officials at the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce say they're seeing more businesses becoming comfortable in investing in their own companies and expanding.
Officials are attributing the growth in area businesses to sufficient signs of success.
They say over the last couple of years, companies have been holding off but not any longer.
In terms of growth, Grand Junction companies have developed two to three percent for decades. But officials say, prior to 2013, companies have been flat or down a percentage.
However, are now beginning to gain speed again.
“In terms of the number of people in the community for 2013, we are probably still going to be flat,” said Diane Schwenke of the Grand Junction Area Camber of Commerce. “But I think we are starting to see some uptick in the economic activity, and you need the economic activity to draw the population. So hopefully this is a good sign for down the road.”
Officials say this year has already been much more sustainable than the last, and in the second quarter, companies nearly doubled their investments when compared the first.
