GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies received a check for $2,290 from Century Link along with 100 pounds of food.

Century Link has been donating for years across the nation and now is the first time they donated locally. The money and food given to the food bank was collected within one week.

in 2012, the Century Link Clarke M. Williams Foundation contributed $1 million to the drive and more than 7.7 million pounds of food to food banks across the country. 'It really says a lot about our employees here in Grand Junction. They live here, work here, and raise there children here and it's important to them to contribute to a charity like this," said Randy Krause, public relations manager for Century Link.

Reports state that 37 million Americans, including 14 million children are receiving food assistance annually, an increase of 46 percent since 2006. Leaving one in eight Americans to rely on feeding America and its nationwide network of local food banks.

Officials with the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies say they will donate some of the money to other organizations that support children.
