GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- If you were traveling along north avenue Thursday afternoon, you may have been one of many caught in some heavy traffic.

Around 1 p.m., a female driver heading west bound in the right lane on North Avenue crashed her 1965 mustang into a traffic signal pole, causing a backup of traffic on the busy road.

The accident happened right in front of Taco Time and the VA Medical Center.

Witnesses say she may have lost her brakes, veered off the side of the road and crashed into the pole.

The same witnesses called 911.

“She was taking to Saint Mary’s for evaluation,” said Bob Culver, of the Grand Junction Police Department. “She had some cuts but we just don’t know other than that because she did hit her head.”

Officials with Grand Junction Police Department say it doesn't appear at this time that alcohol or speeding was involved in the crash.
