College Student Shot Dead Near Durango, Suspect Arrested

LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo.- Authorities say a college student from Utah has been shot to death in the San Juan National Forest in southwest Colorado and a suspect has been arrested.

La Plata County sheriff's deputies say they found the body of 26-year-old David Alan Jones at a campsite about 20 miles north of Durango at about 2 a.m. Saturday after receiving 911 calls of a shooting.

Deputies arrested 37-year-old Brenden Dow Ashburn of Durango on suspicion of first-degree murder. He's being held without bail.

Jones was from Woods Cross, Utah, and attended Fort Lewis College in Durango.
