GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Cabela's across the country celebrated the rapidly growing number of women getting involved with the outdoors by hosting a ladies day out.
The bi-annual event gives women in the Grand Valley an opportunity to attend several classes on topics including archery, hunting, shotguns and even outdoor survival.
Officials at Cabela's are noticing the upward trend in women interested in what used to be a male dominated hobby.
Lauren Truitt, Cabela's retail marketing manager, said, "There are so many women that love to participate in the outdoor sports. Regardless of what it is, this is our way to celebrate that demographic, our way to say thank you and make sure we cater to their needs and wants with our demonstrations and seminars."
A 2011 study from the National Shooting Sports Foundation shows that 61 percent of retailers saw an increase in female customers from 2009 to 2010.
Another study says the number of women participating in shooting sports has increased by nearly 50 percent since 2001.
