Its really a shame the cops walked on murder charges. Go Jasons family, you deserve so much more money a million is not even a good start.

The CSP? How misleading! The Colorado taxpayers will pay for the personal mistake of an officer that acted beyond the law (a.k.a. illegally). The CSP shouldn't pay a penny! The officer that ILLEGALLY committed this MURDER should be held accountable not only monitarily, but via incarceration as well. This was / is a complete travesty of justice!

Lots of mistakes here, it's truly sad why happened, not only for the family but the cops too. There are three families that have been destroyed in this incident. Very sad all the way around.

It is a bad thing that a man lost his life. Too bad everyone's focus is only on one thing. Yes the troopers, in hindsight, should have just backed away. But what about Kemp's actions? He is just to blame if not more so for disobeying lawful requests. And if he indeed came out of the house and assualted an officer then went back in then that changed the whole thing. By the way, where were all you haters when the Motrose cops were shot just months before this happed? You were calling that murder or saying that person's family should pay the MURDERED officer's family a dime or pay back the city for all their time and money and there was no question the cops had the right to enter and all was legal. Again this shouldn't have happened but it wasn't murder. If you are truly mad about tax payers having to pay then why don't you start a petition to have all criminals and their families pay back the state for their crimes instead of all of us paying for it.

Great comments To the Mass Confusion. I agree totally, no one complains when cops are killed by thugs. I know everyone is upset here with the Troopers, but Kemp's actions contributed to what happened. Yes it's truly sad but he certainly wasn't murdered. Cops are murdered everyday in the line of duty and the public doesn't care. If we are going to mourn situations like this, we need to mourn dead officers as well.

To the Mass Confusion: "He is just to blame if not more so for disobeying lawful requests. And if he indeed came out of the house and assualted an officer then went back in then that changed the whole thing." That's the whole point - they weren't lawful requests. The troopers had no legal right to knock down his door, enter his home without a warrant, and shoot him. None whatsoever. Hence why the CSP fired them. And Kemp never assaulted anyone - he left his house once to get his dog. That's it.

LeChat, Kemp had a long record with LE, none of it good, he was requested to come out but refused. Everything he did from that point on fired up the situation, he made the choices that cost him his life, no one helped him do that, he did it himself. Kemp has cost the people of Colorado just as much in death as most criminally minded people do in life. We all pay for every crime committed in this state or this county. Had Kemp chose to not escalate the situation, he would be alive, the LE officers would still have their jobs, the family would still have their son, we citizens of Colorado would not be having to pay for his mistakes. To those who think his family should get more, why don't you give out of your own pockets, ours have been taken out of too many times already.
