CO Senate Passes Civil Unions Bill

by KREX News Room
by Meaghan Wallace

DENVER, The Colorado Senate has passed a civil unions bill, so it will now head to the House for it's next vote.

The Colorado Senate approved the legal recognition for gay partners with a 21-14 vote, without debate.

All Democrats and one Republican voted in favor of the bill.

With the House now under Democratic control, the bill is likely to be sent to Governor HIckenlooper's desk. Hickenlooper has said he plans to sign it into law.

Civil unions would grant gay couples rights similar to marriage. More than a dozen states allow either civil unions or gay marriage.

Colorado's constitution bans gay marriage.

Republicans will never win another election. This makes me a very happy person.:-) The hate on the right has finally grew old to the majority of America, and it will no longer be tolerated. So you can go hate all you need to Upset, but it won't change a thing, you are the Minority! Have a fabulous day!

Hey Jeff, I hope you still feel that way when the communist in the white house, takes away everything you have, and your standing in a line to receive your food ration. I hope you feel that way when your leader decides to take away some freedom you enjoy, because he decides he has a mandate to do so. And I hope you still feel that way when you get sick and can't see a doctor because they are so overwhelmed with others. And I hope you still feel that way when the economy collapses, because you liberals can't stop giving away things. Good luck, and have a great day.

How in the world does someone being gay and having a civil union, in any way shape or form effect you? What is so wrong w/ two other people being happy? You are the one who said quote: Free dope, gay marriage, wow I wonder what's next. Please don't tell me you are a christian judging other people. tisk tisk

@upset, I find it interesting that you are against the right for everyone to have equality but then state in your post "I hope you feel that way when your leader decides to take away some freedom you enjoy." Isn't that exactly what gay marriage and civil unions are about. A freedom that is enjoyed, and taken for granted by many, is denied to a large portion of the population based on pure discrimination. That seems to be hypocrisy in its purest form. Why is it that the Right wants smaller government and more freedom, but then stand up and want to dictate who can marry who and try to deny freedom to others. Can you say hypocrisy yet again. This should not be about Republican, Vs. Democrat Vs. Communism Vs. Socialism etc. This is about living in a country that grants equal freedom regardless of race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation. Equality plain and simple
