GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Colorado Mesa University officials broke ground on the first residence hall of Renaissance Village. Eventually, Renaissance Village will include four residence hall buildings.

The building will mainly house freshmen and sophomores. It will accommodate 209 students and open in spring 2013. It is located at Texas and Cannell avenues.

School officials say the new buildings are necessary for the university's growth. Several weeks ago the university opened up the Orchard Avenue Apartments.

At the groundbreaking was CMU President Tim Foster, as well as the vice president for student services and CMU trustees.

Officials say construction will begin immediately.
