CMU Hosts 'Heroes Behind The Badge' Screening
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Hundreds gathered at Colorado Mesa University Saturday night in the ballroom to watch a documentary on law enforcement officials who lost their lives in the line of duty.
A retired Miami-Dade Police Officer of 26 years, collaborated with the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. to create a 90-minute documentary of officers killed in the line of duty, as well as survival stories.
Producers say they created the film to change that public's attitude and perception of law enforcement.
"It gives an insiders look into the family members, the agencies, and the children of these officers that have died, and how it effects so many people. A comment that was made to me about two officers that are featured in the movie that were killed in a matter of 19 seconds, was how that tragedy has transformed so many other lives that people don't really even understand," said Bill Erfurth, executive producer of the documentary.
The film came out three months ago and is supported by police and training departments across the country, including some school districts.
