CMU Cycling Coach Admits to Doping Involvement

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.-Officials at Colorado Mesa University say a coach has come forward admitting to his past involvement in doping.

In a press release issued Wednesday, officials say Coach Rick Crawford provided performance enhancing drugs to two cyclists from 1999 to 2001, while Crawford was still involved in the pro cycling arena.

After voluntarily confessing, Crawford was placed on suspension for three weeks while CMU conducted an internal investigation.

Officials say no drug related infractions were found and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has no legal authority to sanction Crawford because of how much time has passed.

In a statement, Crawford, who resumed his coaching duties in mid-November, says he deeply regrets his involvement in doping.
