CDOT Closes Rest Area is Glenwood Springs

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.- The Colorado Department of Transportation has shut down the rest area on I-70 in west Glenwood Springs.

The closure was planned for March, but had to be shut down earlier due to sewer line issues.

The rest area is one of four stops that are expected to close after officials passed a recent resolution. The closing of the four stops will save CDOT nearly $300,000 a year in maintenance costs.

Because it is illegal under federal law.

Why not put these areas out to bid and allow private enterprise to operate them on a fee for service basis?
