DENVER- The Director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation believes tighter background checks would strain the state's current system.

According to the Denver Post, CBI Director, Ronald Sloan says the proposed legislation supported by President Barack Obama and the National Rifle Association, would overwhelm the system and inflate wait times.

As of Wednesday, the CBI queue dipped below 10,000 with wait times at about a week.

Sloan adds that if the legislation would go into effect it could increase the amount submitted by 40 percent.

The universal gun proposal would include checks for unlicensed dealers or private sellers,

TO: "For crying outloud!" - try and open your liberal thinking a minute - CRIMINALS DON'T APPLY FOR A BACK GROUND CHECK TO BUY A GUN !!!! Banning any gun is not going to make your kids safer. Why does Switzerland have the lowest gun violence the Government issues ALL citizens a gun so criminals don't know who or when people are armed. And those criminals that do commit these acts are dealt with not coddled like this country.

"for crying out loud" There is not a constitutional amendment for hauling Hazardous materials. Nor is there an amendment for a passport with or without "waiting in line. Liberals can't see the difference and thus can't "get it right".

Criminals don't buy guns in the legitimate market. They obtain them illegally by any means possible. So explain to me once again how making me wait is going to make you or anyone else any safer. It makes about as much sense as having a waiting period before you take your new car home, just in case you might want a beer in the next 10 days. Blame the criminals and the pinheads that enable them, not the law abiding citizens who are by far in the majority.

Waiting in line. said on Friday, Jan 25 at 5:02 AM

Wait times of a week! Come on now! I waited 3 (three) months and had to pay $150.00 just to get a passport. That was ridiculous, but someone deemed it necessary! How many people traveling out of this Country are mass killing in the schools? I think the reasoning is out of balance. A week wait is reasonable and OK by me. Heck, even a divorce takes quite a bit of wait time. Why don't we hear complaints about that?

Do you know how long it takes to get a background check for hauling hazmat? It takes a month for clearance, costs nearly $100 bucks and you have to pass a test and travel to the Front Range. That is all for just hauling hazardous materials. Whine, whine whine! If lives are saved and guns are kept from those loonies that don't deserve them, then I am willing to wait a few extra days. I want my kids safe.
