Burn Season to Start Soon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Saturday is not only the start of a new month, but a new burn season.

Fall burn season begins Sept. 1 and goes until Oct. 31.

Officials say the burn season allows residents to get rid of extra brush, but in a safe manner.

"If you have a backyard fire pit, a recreational fire or cooking fire for your backyard you don't have to have a permit. However, if you're going to burn weeds outside then you have to have a permit for that," said Mike Page, spokesperson for the Grand Junction Fire Department.

The two allowed burn seasons are in the fall and spring.

Officials say residents can also cut up the extra brush and put it on top of other soil to create a moist, rich compost soil.
