Budget Cuts Impacts Boulder County's Mobile Needle Program

BOULDER, Colo.- Boulder County's Board of Health says budget cuts are forcing the elimination of a mobile needle exchange program and the layoffs of three employees.

The board said Monday HIV infection rates are down and the money is needed elsewhere.

The county will continue to operate the program in three fixed sites and partner with the Boulder County AIDS Project to offer needle exchanges at its two office locations.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, the county's needle exchange was one of only a few in the country when it started in 1989.
