GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Fire officials responded to an overnight fire at a local nursing home and also found a dead body.

Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday a fire alarm went off at Eagle Ridge of Grand Valley, a nursing home located at 2425 Teller Ave. in Grand Junction.

When fire crews arrived they found that employees of the facility had already put out the small fire with a fire extinguisher.

Nursing home representatives say a 67-year-old male resident died following a fire in his room.

Officials say the fire stayed confined to the man's bed, but investigators aren't sure whether the fire started before or after the man died.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the elderly man.

The investigation has been turned over to the Grand Junction Police Department.

Police officials say they have not found anything suspicious and are not anticipating filing any criminal charges.

NewsChannel 5 received a statement from Vivage Quality Health Partners, the management company for the nursing home.

They say the elderly man moved to Eagle Ridge of Grand Valley from another local home just last Friday.

They say they're cooperating as law enforcement continues a full investigation.

The cause and manner of death will be announced by the coroner.
