Bowlers Compete For Scholarship Money

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The 7th annual bowling Snowball tournament brought people from all over the Western Slope to Orchard Mesa Bowling Lanes this weekend.

People from Rifle, El Jebel, New Castle and Montrose competed individually, on teams, and in doubles to win trophies and around $1,380 in scholarship money.

There was 37 teams with a total of 140 people who participated.

Ages ranged from four year olds, to 20 year olds, with no bumpers allowed.

"My son's been in this program for the past 14 years and he's probably got enough money that he's raised in just doing events like this, to pay for his first semester of college," said Lee Moore, vice president of bowling in Mesa County.

Officials say the tournament gets bigger every year.

The scholarship money is good up until seven years after one graduates.

The money can only be used for education.

Winners will know by Monday how much money they'll receive.
