GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- After weeks worth of collecting books, local kids are in for an educational treat Thursday afternoon.

"Book on into Reading" has successfully been helping kids become better readers for two years, and local children will have the opportunity to choose from mountains of books Thursday at the organization's book drive.

"These kids really need the books and need access to the books,” said Cathy Lasnik, senior program specialist. “Many of the books are actually bilingual books as well, so they can take them home and read with family members. It’s really important that we have parents and grandparents reading with their children.”

The book drive will begin at 4 p.m. at the Riverside Education Center located at 552 W. Main St.

Children are expected to receive up to two books, and all the leftover books will be donated to the education center.
