ORCHARD MESA, Colo.- A woman's body is found in a ditch in Orchard Mesa, and authorities are unclear as to how she died and how she got in the ditch.
Grand Junction Dispatch received a call around 3:20 p.m. Monday about a body that was discovered in a ditch at 1615 Laveta Street.
When they arrived they found a woman who was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead by officials.
Homeowner Roger Martin was shocked to find a body in his front yard.
"We came home around 3:15 and noticed something in the culvert under my driveway. So, I went to see what it was and it was a shoe. I then said 'please don't let this be attached to something', and I pulled, and the body came out with it. It was pretty surreal. It's a strange day here," explained Martin.
Investigators say an autopsy will be performed as soon as possible to get some answers as to why or how she died. At this time this is being called an unattended death.
The Grand Junction Police Department will not have any updates on the investigation until official autopsy results are released.
