Bill Making Oil & Gas Operations Accountable for Violations Moves Forward
DENVER- A bill that makes oil and gas operations accountable for violations moves forward. According to the Denver Post, the House Transportation and Energy Committee voted on an 8-5 vote for House Bill 1267. The bill increases daily fines for violations from poor housekeeping on sites to leaks and spills to a maximum of $15,000 a day from $1,000. The bill also removes a $10,000 cap on any one fine and sets a floor of $5,000 for adverse environmental impacts. Bill sponsor, Rep. Mike Foote, D-Lafayette, noted that Colorado has one of the lowest fine schedules among oil and gas producing states.
