DENVER-A bill aimed at improving school safety was unanimously passed out of the Colorado Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday.

SB 13-138 would expand the roles of school resource officers, include school resource officers as community partners, and allow school districts to include them in the development, and implementation of their safe school plans.

Sen. Steve King, who sponsored the bill, says that the school resource officer is a critical link in providing safe schools by putting their unique training and experience to work in protecting students and teachers.

The bill is awaiting hearing in the Senate Education Committee.
