GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Big Sky Open Archery Tournament was held over the weekend and with it comes a boost to the local economy.

Archery, the sport that requires skill, focus and determination, was back in the Grand Valley for the 38th annual tournament.

The event brought in more than 100 participants from all over the nation, and even one woman from down under. "We're going to be here for two months, so we're going to do another two or three tournaments. We love being back," said Marrie Hulbert, a participant from Australia.

This tournament also brings money to the area. "They do spend a lot of money here. I've had business people from downtown telling me that the archers come in and spend a lot with them," said Margaret Brabec, coordinator of the tournament. "A couple came in, and just as an example, they went to the wineries and spent over $800 at the wineries alone," she said.

The participants can also make some money of their own if they place in the tournament. Officials say they can win up to $6,000.
