Migration Season Begins, Officials Warn of Wildlife on Roads

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Migration season has begun, which means wildlife will be crossing several roads and highways.

Officials are reminding everyone to be on alert.

They say animals to watch out for include deer, elk and bears.

In an attempt to prevent animal versus car collisions, the speed limit has been lowered at night in a major problem area.

"State Highway 13, north of Meeker and north of Rifle, have been identified as high-hit corridors, that we implemented the signing and reduced speed limit program at night," said Sean Yeates, resident engineer for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

If any wildlife is hit, call the Colorado State Patrol or Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
