Basalt - Officials say a Basalt High School teacher has resigned after being charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. According to authorities, 26-year-old Lauren Redfern was having sexual relations with a student while he was still 17.

Police reports also say they were engaged in sexual activity in a teacher restroom, which is where they were caught by another faculty member.

Redfern had been suspended from her teaching and coaching duties, until she emailed a letter of resignation to the Roaring Fork School District.

School board officials tell NewsChannel 5 they have accepted her resignation.

Now that she's unemployed, I'd like to hire her to teach me some private lessons.

Tragic! Now this seventeen-year-old-boy has been scarred for life. How can you people make fun of this sad event?

"Scarred for life"? He'll be bragging about it for the rest of his life.

I know I would be bragging about it for sure... Plus he is past the age of 15 and isn't that that legal age for consent in Colorado??? I don't think he will be scarred for life. Just good memories that's all. Way to go man!!! Keep up the good work.
