Basalt Councilman: RFTA Needs to be More Bike Friendly

BASALT, Colo.- The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority is getting some flack for not being a bike-friendly bus system.

According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, Basalt councilman Glenn Rappaport is urging RFTA officials to find a way to accommodate bicycles 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Currently, RFTA prohibits bikes from being loaded on buses when it's dark.

Officials with the transit agency said they want to do more, but they have some challenges, especially seeing that their new expanded service, dubbed VelociRFTA, will only be able to carry two bikes. That is less than it can currently carry.

However, those with the company say they would consider allowing bikes to be unloaded and loaded for a longer time once the VelociRFTA is operating.
