Researchers are learning why bad sleep habits can also lead to weight gain.

Volunteers in a study were allowed to sleep just five hours a night. That means they were required to have 5% more energy to stay awake. The participants were also required to consume 6% more calories and tended to eat smaller breakfasts and binge on after dinner snacks, which lead to a gain of nearly two pounds over five days.
