Authorities Warn of New Craiglists Scam
KREX News Room
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Grand Junction Police Department is warning of a new Craiglist scam targeting area residents.
According to authorities, they've received numerous reports from residents who have fallen victim to a home rental scam online.
Various homes throughout the area have been posted on the website and listed for rent.
In many of the fraudulent ads, it says the homeowner is out of the state but will accept wire transfers for security deposits, as well as first and last months rent, in return for the rental.
In reality, some of these homes really are rental, and some are being occupied by their owners.
Police say these scammers are pulling home front photos offline to create their fake rental properties.
Police say you should always ask to meet the property manager in person or ask them for directions on local roads to get there.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is!
