Authorities Investigate Possible Firefighter Impersonator

DENVER- Authorities say a man accused of impersonating a firefighter at the High Park Fire is now being investigated over similar accusations at a fire west of Denver in March.

After Michael Maher was arrested this week on suspicion of impersonating a firefighter in northern Colorado, authorities who searched his vehicle said they found radios, including one that was reported stolen from the Lower North Fork Fire.

Officials say firefighting tools, a portable radio and other items that were issued during the Lower North Fork Fire were never returned.

Everything was worth an estimated $2,400.

Investigators say they searched Maher's home and recovered other gear issued during that fire.
