Pilot Survives Plane Crash Near Glenwood Canyon

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo.- Garfield County sheriff's deputies are investigating a plane crash that happened Saturday. An aircraft went down at the Jess Weaver Trail, north of No Name Trail at the west end of Glenwood Canyon.

Garfield County officials were notified of a possible distressed aircraft just before 2 p.m. Search crews located the Cessna 172 Skyhawk, a single-engine fixed-wing aircraft, around 6:45 p.m.

The surviving pilot was the only person on board the aircraft and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Those involved in the rescue included: Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, a U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officer, Vail Mountain Rescue, Colorado National Guard unit out of Eagle County and Burning Mountains Fire Protection District.
