Authorities Cast Doubt on Indiana Man's Shooting Threat

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A northern Indiana police chief says he believes a man facing felony charges for allegedly threatening to ``kill as many people as he could'' at a school was bluffing.

Interim Cedar Lake Police Chief Jerry Smith said Sunday he doesn't think 60-year-old Von Meyer was serious when he made the alleged school threat Friday hours before a deadly shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school.

Smith says Meyer allegedly told his wife during a heated argument he would kill her and ``as many people as he could'' at ``the school.'' Meyer's wife works at Jane Ball Elementary School near their home.

Meyer was arrested Saturday and is being held without bond.

Police found 47 guns in Meyer's home, but Smith says most of the weapons were antique guns.
