Authorities Ask for Public's Help in Search for Missing Woman

MESA COUNTY, Colo. - More than 30 Mesa County Search and Rescue volunteers are working to bring one Loma woman home safely.

Roxanne Kostka was last seen Saturday, Feb. 16 at about 4:30 p.m. at her residence in the 400 block of M Road in Loma. Kostka's family and the Sheriff’s Office are concerned for her safety.

Kostka is a 60-year-old white female. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds with brown eyes and short brown hair. She has some difficulty walking.

In addition to the search and rescue volunteers there are at least eight sheriff's deputies assisting search efforts. The sheriff's office is also using drones to try and locate Kostka. There is also privately-owned Cessna plane aiding authorities.

The family is very thankful for the outpouring of community support. Neighbors have been helping in any way they can, including bringing food to search crews.

Why aren't the bloodhounds of the Mesa County Sheriff department being used?

Confused, I was out searching but seen no sign of the sheriff bloodhounds. How come?

The Sheriff's Office does not have bloodhounds. And yes there were several hounds out from a volunteer from Garfield County out and about.

Actually they do have bloodhounds I happen to know them. To bad they never got a call.

Actually "Joe" they do not, sorry - there is a volunteer lady who is associated with the agency that has a hound but she is not certified or a member of Search & Rescue.

Actually hounds are not to be certified in Colorado they are required to show tracking records according to the Supreme Court of Colorado, and regardless if you knew of someone with able dogs here and didn't call them I guess you can explain to the family why you didn't find her. Instead you ask the public for help before you would call a dog with a successful tracking record.

Did anybody see her leave for a walk??? Was that the normal routine or what??? All they say is she was last seen at the residence approx 2 hours before dark....and if she couldn't walk good then wtf? Does she walk on private land or in the road???

You all should be ashamed for being arm chair quarterbacks and not knowing all the facts and details. The Sheriff Deputies, Search and Rescue VOLUNTEERS and my neighbors have worked together to find Roxy. A lady most of us and none of them know yet we/they do this for her and the family. THANK YOU !! I don't suspect any of you "professional" know it alls would volunteer or work to help others.

Is it illegal for a grown adult with no medical or mental health issues to leave and not tell anyone? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Someone enlighten me please. Hearts & Prayers to the family, friends and searchers.

Actually you might be surprised at how hard it is to volunteer for search and rescue. I filled out my paperwork a year and half ago, and after months of no contact from anyone and three phone calls to sar I have yet to hear a word from them so before you call us armchair quarterbacks, maybe look at the ones your praising for not accepting the people that do want to help.

Just saying its very disappointing to try to help this community during these type of scenarios and not even given the opportunity to help when you do volunteer. My prayers are with the family.

I've been getting robo calls on keeping an eye out and check outbuildings, etc...and I have been watching around here but Sheriff's around here like to think they can sniff better than bloodhounds! They like to think they know more than anybody in the world around here.

Thank you LOMA NEIGHBOR! Roxy would NEVER intentionally just walk away and leave her grandson alone. There had to be something medically wrong. SHe couldn't wait to move from our hometown and get back with her family again and for the media or police to say that she meant to hurt herself is pure b.s. Roxy we will miss you and you were a wonderful person inside and out. We'll see you again soon Roxy. Jen, we are in shock and we wish we could be there for you. :(
