Aurora Theater Victims' Families Criticize Fundraising Efforts

AURORA, Colo.- Families of some of the people killed in the Colorado theater shooting are upset with the way that millions of dollars raised since the tragedy are being given out.

They held an emotional news conference Tuesday in Aurora.

Tom Teves, whose son was killed, criticized fundraisers for not giving victims a voice in how the money is distributed.

So far, just over $5 million has been raised, with $5,000 each going to the families of 70 victims to meet their immediate financial needs.

However, $100,000 has gone to 10 nonprofit groups. No other money has been distributed yet.

"When you generate donations for a fund called the Aurora Victims Relief Fund using pictures and names of our murdered loved ones without our permission, it would stand a reason that the funds are for the victims of the Aurora shooting," explained Teves during the news conference.

Teves also questioned the commitment of Gov. John Hickenlooper to helping the victims.

James Holmes is charged with killing 12 people and wounding 58 others during a Batman movie on July 20.
