Aurora Shooting Victims Push for Harsher Gun Control

by KREX News Room
by Meaghan Wallace

DENVER - Survivors of the Aurora theater shooting and relatives of victims are urging lawmakers to take steps to prevent gun violence.

They spoke at the Colorado Capitol Friday morning, accompanied by state Representative Rhonda Fields and Senator Morgan Carroll.

Gun control is expected to be one of the most heated topics at the state legislature in the coming months.

Democrats have signaled they may sponsor legislation to ban assault weapons and restrict access to firearms to people with mental illness. Gov. John Hickenlooper has said the time is right for lawmakers to discuss gun control.

Twelve people were killed in the July theater shooting and more than 58 others were wounded.

Folks it's time to face the facts, liberals want guns gone. They have been at this for years. They are using these situations for their own benefit, people need to realize that.

@ 6 percent, 2 percent of the vote obama got on his own, 2 percent more was given to him by the libertarians, the other 47 percent he got was from those on welfare. The democrats have been paying for those votes since LBJ brought about the welfare system. The rest of us have to work for a living, so we think about who we vote for. Those who vote the welfare ticket don't have to think, they just vote for a living.

Arguing about facts and statistics is only useful when dealing with rational intelligent people. Gun Banners and Democrats some how can't seem to make the cut. With them it's all about "feelings" and name calling. (And for the record, "statistics" record things that have already happened. Election strategies are about trying to make things happen (in the future). Those things are always a guess.)

I feel bad for the families that lost loved ones in the shooting, once again a mentally ill person got ahold of firearms that should have never been able to, as for the "gun free zone" at the theater DIDN'T WORK!!!! The BAD guy was the ONLY person armed and look what happened! Just one legally armed citizen could have stopped the idiot!

that 95 percent of all staticts are wrong. You cant wield stats as a weapon until you at least know how to read and use stats. Ask the Republician party about their last election stats. Ask the NRA about how well there funding worked out with stats..

Two cities with the strictest gun controls in the country; Chicago and washington D.C. They also have the highest crime and murder rates in the country. Proof, that gun control laws work only for the criminal element and politicians, that is, if you can tell them apart.
